Caregiving is tough work but even tougher when not prepared to manage the challenges of caring for a loved one living with dementia related diseases.
This program is a positive psychology approach to caregiving that honors both the care recipient and the caregiver. We stress learning to reconnect with the person who is still inside with a heart and a thriving spirit. We specifically teach caregivers to attend to the unmet needs - independence, love, touch, connection and communications. This culturally sensitive program focuses on the unique needs of each caregiver. As dementia affects African-Americans at 2 to 3 times the rate of the general population, members of that community are especially encouraged to attend. All family caregivers are welcome. Lunch will be provided. This program is supported by AgeWays NonProfit Senior Services and presented by Dr. Paula Duren.
